The availability of indoor and outdoor insects can be an ongoing nuisance. Bug existence in the house can easily be linked with filth. While those that do not spend substantial time outdoors can use repellents with lower concentration of active ingredients.

There are many different kinds of insect repellents. Repellents come in different forms; mainly in the form of sprays and lotions. Certain brands are more effective than others, as such; individual research or obtaining general information about the brands can be helpful. Generally, these brands are known to be toxic and can cause injury to the eye or when ingested. Precautionary methods are strongly recommended, and these products must be kept away from children. Pediatricians should be confronted about the repellent brands to be applied to a child. Concerns about chemicals in repellents is common, the general population is unaware that there are repellents on the market that contain all natural ingredients.

Covering up with clothing, is one of the common form of advice to avoiding insect bites. However, what most people do not know is that; insect repelling clothing that contains synthetic chemical insecticide is available on the market. The chemicals involved can remain effective for months; however, washing does have the tendency of reducing the effectiveness. Instructions usually come with the products.

Insect attractions

Strong scented perfumes, body lotions, and or shampoos can attract bugs, thus increasing the likelihood of bug bites. Fragrances from detergents or fabric softeners are also attract bugs. Outdoor bugs can be attracted to sweat, or the kind of foods being consumed. It is difficult to stay away from various scents, such as perfumes. Avoiding foods consumed can be difficult as well, but these are some common advisory recommendations used to keep bug bites to the minimal.

Insects are known to attack mainly from around sunset. If one chooses to stay outdoors around this time, repellents, and cover-ups are recommended. Outdoor seating areas, should be surrounded by non flowery plants, as flowered vegetation do attract insects; especially stingers that are mainly attracted to the nectar and the scent. The availability of standing water does attract mosquitoes, avoidance is the key. Sleeping under the net when camping is highly recommended; additionally, the net can be treated with repellents to prevent mosquito attacks and nocturnal biters.

Citronella against insects

Citronella candles and oils are known to be a deterrent to insects. Most companies that manufacture citronella candles usually use a yellow dye around the candles. The original form of citronella has a strong lemony scent and is yellow in color. Based on the natural insect repellent it produces, citronella candles are normally used in surrounding areas of use. Alternative to candles, citronella oil is commonly used as well.
